Elzeth Jacobs surrounded by her sculptural works in her Klawerjas studio
Elzeth

Art shaped by hand, place and instinct.

Sculpture and painting by Elzeth, encountered throughout Klawerjas.

Art at Klawerjas

Art lives here.

At Klawerjas, art is not separate from life. Sculptures and paintings are woven through the farm, the accommodation and the landscape — encountered as part of the character of the place.

Sculpture sits at the heart of the collection. Ceramic forms move between the figurative and the imagined — expressive, tactile and sometimes playful — while paintings explore colour, atmosphere and surface.

Across both, materials and forms shift between art and object, indoors and out. Some works command attention; others reveal themselves quietly as you move through Klawerjas.

Sculpture

Form, weight and character.

Sculpture is the central body of Elzeth's practice: expressive forms shaped through an instinctive relationship with material, texture and emotion.

Blurring Boundaries

Blurring Boundaries by Elzeth Jacobs, oil and ceramic on board

Oil and ceramic on board

Moving between painted surface and sculptural form, Blurring Boundaries brings ceramic elements into the picture plane. The work sits between painting and object — extending Elzeth's exploration of form beyond the canvas.

Painting at Klawerjas

Art in the rooms.

Elzeth's paintings form part of the interiors at Klawerjas — collected, placed and lived with rather than separated into a formal gallery.

In Flute Cottage, paintings share the lounge with books, objects and sculptural pieces, becoming part of the character of the room.

The Artist

About Elzeth

Elzeth Jacobs is a self-taught South African artist working across sculpture, painting and mixed media. Her ceramic works use character, gesture and material to explore emotion, vulnerability and strength.

Her paintings extend the same curiosity into colour and surface, while works combining painted and ceramic elements deliberately blur the boundary between image and object. Across both practices, her work is instinctive, expressive and often quietly playful.

At Klawerjas, Elzeth’s art is part of the place itself. Works appear throughout the farm and accommodation, shaped by—and experienced alongside—the stillness, space and landscape of the Robertson Valley.
